Hello!
As you may know, my name is Camryn. I am a senior in high school at a local charter school in Greenville, South Carolina. I started this blog as a part of my senior project, which you can read about here. You'd think that after writing scholarship essays galore, I'd be better at introducing myself. What is there to say?
I like to bake, I enjoy listening to music, I volunteer at the local animal shelter, I have 8 pets, I love dyeing my hair bright colors, I'm a part of a family of 6 (including myself) and I love Kit-Kat bars. In fact, I'm eating one right now. I am a part of the dual enrollment program at my school, which means I can take college classes while in high school. I have been enrolled in college classes since 9th grade and when I graduate I will have upwards of 30 credit hours that will count towards my Baking & Pastry & Food Service Management Bachelor's degree at Johnson and Wales University in Charlotte, North Carolina.
My ultimate career goal is to own a culinary business. At this point, I'm not sure what that might be, but I know that I am currently on the path to get there. In the early months of 2015, I was lucky enough to intern at a local bakery to receive training in regards to cake decorating, cupcakes and pastries. My passion is baking and creating delicious, sweet treats. When I get stressed, I bake. When I'm happy, I bake. If I'm sad, you guessed it, I bake!
I chose doughnuts to be the focus of my senior project because they're a popular pastry in America and I saw the potential to create crazy flavor combinations as well as turn the doughnut into something I've never tried before. Doughnuts are so versatile and with some creativity, amazing ingredients and passion, I thought I could come up with some delicious recipes.
Through this project, I hope to widen my knowledge of culinary science and the chemistry that's involved in baking as well as improve basic life skills such as organization, responsibility, presentation and managing the unexpected. Above all, I hope to have fun and enjoy my last year of being a kid before the real world slaps me in the face. Thanks for being a part of this journey with me!
